'Santaland Diaries' skewers holiday kitsch
Matt Chiorini plays Crumpet the Elf.

A mall Santa, an elf costume and a slacker looking for work sound like a certain recipe for disaster. But in the masterful voice of writer David Sedaris, The Santaland Diaries is a tasty treat not to be missed.

Actor Matt Chiorini takes on the satirical one-man show for Tennessee Repertory Theatre through Dec. 20, with performances at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays (with no show on Dec. 2) and 7:30 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays at Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Johnson Theater, 505 Deaderick St. There are also 2:30 p.m. matinees on Dec. 6, 13 and 20, and the final matinee will be signed for the hearing impaired.

Tickets are $11.50-$41.50 with some restrictions through the TPAC box office downtown, at Davis-Kidd Booksellers in The Mall at Green Hills, Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com or 255-ARTS (2787). For details go to www.tennesseerep.org or call 244-4878. The show is aimed at those in high school and above.
