And the winner is…
1 Cannery RowNashville, TN 37203
Cannery Row’s double dose of rock rooms continues to pack ’em in for everything from buzz-driven indie acts, current chart-toppers, underground favorites, rock veterans and the ripest local bands.
1604 Eighth Ave. S.Nashville, TN 37203
Mike Grimes’ Eighth Avenue hotspot might be Nashville’s coolest and coziest rock hang. Combine that with his Grimey’s New and Preloved Music shop upstairs, and you’ve got one of the hippest musical headquarters in town.
4104 Hillsboro RoadNashville, TN 37215
Now run by the Nashville Songwriters Association International, the Bluebird still features plenty of hit-packed in-the-round performances. Plus, Don Schlitz (“The Gambler,” “When You Say Nothing At All”) plays there once a month for a $1 cover, and the searing Mike Henderson Band plays the blues every Monday night.
Exit/In 2208 Elliston PlaceNashville , TN 37212
A historic club that continues its longstanding tradition of providing a home to “other” musical fare in country music’s capital. From indie rock to jam bands, hip-hop to metal, few clubs can boast the kind of musical range and longstanding legacy of this Elliston Place fixture.
402 12th Ave. S.Nashville, TN 37203
Hands down, this is America’s finest bluegrass club, but owner J.T. Gray allows enough non-bluegrass in his room to spice things up: The riotous Doyle and Debbie show is there each Tuesday, the Western-swinging Time Jumpers play on Mondays, and in 2009 the Station Inn also featured a full-band show from Darrell Scott, a singer-songwriter set from Holly Williams and a beautifully presented art show.
