Alfredo Roca Pinot Noir
Argentina, 2007
$13
Medium-bodied red
It's easy to find good bargains among the wines grown in Argentina. You'll find several good winemakers in the high-altitude Mendoza province, where this unusual pinot noir comes from. It comes on light but has a stiff, oaky backbone that can stand up to lavish holiday fare. Its mineral and cranberry wisps would go well with lighter fowl or fish, or maybe a butternut squash soup.
