Hold onto your sofa cushions, Nashville. The Optimist Manifesto's massive pillow fight, which was scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Centennial Park, has been canceled.

Organizers did not secure a Metro Parks permit for the event, which would have cost more than $500, according to organizer Courtney Greenlee. "We're just some college students who wanted to get involved in the community," Greenlee said. (How much would you have chipped in, if they had asked for donations? www.pollmonkey.com/p.asp?U=8448757421)

The pillow fight was intended to "lend a positive meaning to the word ‘fight’ and to spread happiness in these tough times," according to the original news release promoting the event.

When Metro Parks began receiving phone calls for more information, Greenlee says Optimist Manifesto was informed that they would have to cancel the event, and that police officers will be at the park on Sunday to turn people away.
