Byrd's Eye View: MCB Spring Break or Bust!
Pictured: Belle Bombshell
On Friday night, the lovely ladies of Music City Burlesque proved that you don't have to skip town to have fun on spring break. Their show at Belcourt Theatre, accompanied by surf band The Lava Men, combined all the ingredients of a perfect vacation - good tunes, booze, bikinis and boobies. Come on - it wouldn't be a burlesque show without a little tassel teasing.
And tease they did! Miss Monique Honeybush dazzled the audience with a titillating fan dance while Lux-O-Matic brought her own flavor (and a larger than life-size chicken) to the stage for her uncanny number.
But the real show-stopper was Kicky LaRue, who appeared for the final number dressed as a sweet little sailor girl. When the bass line kicked into Andy Samberg and T-Pain's "I'm On a Boat," the audience realized this sweet little sailor was definitely not so innocent. It was the first time I've seen a burlesque number set to rap, complete with enough bump and grind to make a stripper blush.
