A session musician who sat with Waylon Jennings, Elvis Presley and Bobby Bare, Reed also wrote hit songs, including the No. 1 single "Misery Loves Company," recorded by Porter Waggoner. Outside of music, he was one of the stars of Smokey and The Bandit, whose soundtrack included his "East Bound and Down."
