Byrd's Eye View: Melrose Neighborhood Pub
Austin Ray (pictured here), former owner of now-closed nightclub Bar Twenty3, has opened a new joint, Melrose Neighborhood Pub.
The somewhat sporty but mainly low-key bar is located on Eighth Avenue near Melrose in the same spot where The Chute used to reside.
Not only a bar, Melrose is open from 11 a.m.-2 a.m. daily. Dinner and lunch are available on a full menu of tasty items from quesadillas and B.L.T.s to crispy waffle fries and fresh chocolate-chip cookies. The kitchen closes at 11 p.m.
Inside, guests will find a laid-back atmosphere with plenty of room to move, with a super-long bar and booth seating. The walls are decorated with pop art and concert posters from the past 40 years. There's a game space in the back of the bar with a pool table, Super Shot Basketball and arcade games.
Thursdays should prove to be busy nights, with almost all beers offered 2-for-1, plus wine and liquor are double pours until 10 p.m.
