Byrd's Eye View: Prophetik Fashion Show

Local designer Jeff Garner held a fashion show for Impulsion, the spring and summer collection for his Prophetik label. The show took place last week in the courtyard behind Posh in Hillsboro Village, attracting a huge flock of fashion-forward folks.
What set this show apart from other runway events in town was the location. The catwalk was a stretch of grassy lawn, and the models interacted with each other in choreographed “scenes,” each one telling a different short story. There was also the addition of live music and tango dancers, which certainly added to the drama.
Garner started the label, which prides itself on being eco-friendly and sustainable, eight years ago, and it has gone on to enjoy international attention. The line is carried in actor Colin Firth’s (Bridget Jones’ Diary, Love Actually) London boutique, Eco-Age, and was featured at Fashion Week for the British Fashion Council.
A portion of proceeds from the event went to The Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project. In fact, a Prophetik dress that was recently featured in Lucky magazine was made of organic silk that had been painted by some of the elephants at the reserve.
