Byrd's Eye View - The Wine Loft
The gulch has a sleek, new addition in the same spot where Bar Twenty 3 used to reside. The Wine Loft, which only opened its doors last week, is part wine bar, part restaurant and part upscale see and be seen lounge. It features an extensive catalog of, you guessed it, wine as well as an innovative list of nibbles that includes such items as Japanese Pumpkin Ravioli, Lamb Lollipops, Artisan Cheeses, Escargot Vol au Vent and Shrimp and Blue Cheese Pastries. But don’t be fooled by the name. In addition to the lengthy list of available vino, The Wine Loft also features liquor beverages and soon, a full beer list as well.
And although The Wine Loft is part of a franchised chain of upscale, chic restaurant/lounges with Nashville being the 19th location to open across the country, I’m glad to say that it certainly doesn’t have a corporate feel. In fact, it’s almost impossible to tell you’re even inside the same venue that once housed a minimalist nightclub. The spacious room is nearly the antithesis of what was once Bar Twenty 3, having been totally redone in masculine shades of coco and cigar with gilded mirrors and plush, velveteen lounge seating tucked into every corner. The soft lighting and music set the tone to encourage intimate conversations, not dancing on tables.
I have to admit that one of my biggest pet peeves when I go out is trying to speak with someone who is two feet from my head and having to scream over music to do so in a place that is definitely not a nightclub or live music venue. Thankfully, The Wine Loft gets it right.
The Wine Loft is open Tuesday through Saturday from 5p.m. until 2a.m. Learn more by checking out www.thewineloft.net.
