Matt and Kim
Hip-hop pioneers Public Enemy, brooding Brooklyn rockers The National and rapper Kid Cudi will be among the performers at Vanderbilt University's annual Rites of Spring Music Festival, reps announced today.
Other acts scheduled to perform at this year's installment of the two-day outdoor concert series -- set for Vanderbilt's Alumni Lawn April 15 and 16 -- include indie-rock band Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, vocalist/pianist Sara Bareilles and Brooklyn indie-pop duo Matt and Kim, who'll be back in Middle Tennessee in June for Manchester's Bonnaroo festival.
News of the Rites lineup comes just a few days after Bonnaroo, unveiled theirs -- superstar rapper Eminem and album of the year Grammy winners Arcade Fire are among that fest's headliners.
Tickets for the Rites of Spring festival go on sale on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. Student tickets (one per student) are $30 each, and faculty and staff members can purchase weekend passes (one per person) for $40 each. General admission weekend passes are $55 in advance, $65 the day of the show. Gates will open at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 15 and 3 p.m. on Saturday. The schedule of performances is forthcoming.
Past Rites performers include rapper Drake and psych-rock stalwarts Flaming Lips. (Flaming Lips, incidentally, are set to play the Ryman on May 18, and tickets, at $30.50-$40.50, go on sale today (Friday Feb. 18) at 10 a.m. Central via Ticketmaster.)
