Upset in the air
It wasn't a big night for upsets, but the biggest heavyweight category shocker was the left-field victory of "Precious" in best adapted screenplay. The award was widely expected to go to "Up in the Air," a one-time Oscar frontrunner that ended the night with zero wins. Instead Geoffrey Fletcher got the trophy for a movie that famously had its source material in its original title ("Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire"), and rather quietly became the first ever black winner of a screenplay Oscar.
