Just announced: Superstar rapper Jay-Z is headed to Vanderbilt University's Memorial Gymnasium on Nov. 13.
The rapper's keeping a high profile at the moment - he released his new album, The Blueprint 3, on Sept. 8, and performed to close Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards (at press time he was also due to take part in the first The Jay Leno Show episode Monday night). Music industry publication Billboard tipped on Thu., Sept. 10 that Blueprint was on course to land as the rapper's 11th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with this week's charts.
"Vanderbilt is excited about the opportunity to present one of the pioneers of rap," director of student campus events Dwayne Elliott said in a statement about the show.
More information about the Vanderbilt show - set for 8 p.m. and presented by Vanderbilt Programming Board Music Group and Vanderbilt Athletics and booked by MAC Presents - is available at http://studentorgs.vanderbilt.edu/vpb. Ticket information was not yet available.
It was also announced Monday that reggae jam crew-turned-pop/rock hit-makers O.A.R. and Latin hip-hop sensation Pitbull will headline Vanderbilt's 2009 'Commodore Quake' homecoming concert next month.
This year's concert takes place at 8 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 15, also in the school's Memorial Gymnasium.
Tickets for the Commodore Quake go on sale today (September 15) at 10 a.m. through all Ticketmaster outlets and the Sarratt Box Office. Admission is $25 for the general public, $15 for Vanderbilt students.
