If Sabbath can reunite, why not these 13 other legendary acts?
Egos the size of galaxies. A fan base that can still fill arenas (or at least theatres). “Artistic differences.” And the chance to make the sky rain lots and lots of money. Ah, the tides pushing and pulling reunion tours in and out of existence.
If you’re a fan, a once-massively successful or “important” group getting back together for one last hurrah is Shangri-La. If you’re not, it’s a cash grab. In many cases, it’s probably a little bit of both.
On “National Metal Day” (11/11/11!), heavy metal originators Black Sabbath announced they’d embark on a 2012 world tour—and release a new Rick Rubin-produced album, the first studio LP featuring the original Sabbath lineup (of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward) since 1978’s “Never Say Die.”
