Sade, 'Is It a Crime'
Sometime in the mid-1980s, the folks at Webster’s Dictionary held a secret meeting to consider using “Sade” as a synonym for “sexy.” Although that amendment never came to fruition, it hasn’t kept Sade from selling more than 23.5 million albums in America (and no, we don’t have the decimal point between the wrong two numbers there). The British jazz-pop band took their name from their honey-voiced singer, Sade Adu. After releasing three records in the ’80s, Sade have slowed down to a one-per-decade clip.
