Byrd's Eye View: Mafia Nation
After more than a year long hiatus, Muzik Mafia finally reunited for a very special night of music at The Cannery Ballroom to benefit Building Lives, an organization right here in Middle Tennessee that helps the homeless get back on their feet. I arrived just before the first act took the stage, Jon “King’ Nicholson and Big Kenny Alphin, who kicked off their set with a sing-along to “You Can’t Have my Cornbread.” Up next was Damien Horne who completely wowed the crowd with his 50s-esque rendition of “Poisonous” before pulling out his show-stopping number “Sacrifice” to which proved he has the moves to match his pipes and busted a back flip-into-splits combination right in the middle of the stage. But that was only the beginning of the surprises that were in store for the eager audience that evening. Other appearances included Brad Arnold and Todd Harrell of 3 Doors Down, James Otto, Randy Houser, Shannon Lawson, Danny Salazar, Bobby Bare Jr, Anthony Gomes and many more. The entire event served as more of a laid-back gathering of old chums than a by-the-schedule event and most of the musicians took turns jumping on stage with their friends for impromptu performances throughout the evening.
