Raphael Saadiq
Saadiq originally jumped with the Oakland-based, platinum-clad new-jack swingers Tony! Toni! Tone! in the '80s and '90s. But he has since gone successfully solo, especially on his latest effort "The Way I See It." Recently, he performed at South by Southwest with legendary crooner Smokey Robinson, along with Sharon Jones and some of the further talents on this list. Raised as a gospel singer before he amped up the BPM with Tony! Toni! Tone!, Saadiq has also crossed into hip-hop with A Tribe Called Quest and the late, great J Dilla. And he's also shepherded popular young talent like D'Angelo and Joss Stone. Which is why he's called Oaktown's finest.
