Remembering the late Slipknot bassist in pictures
Slipknot fans are still in shock over the news that one of the band's founding members, bassist Paul Gray, has died. Gray, 38, was found dead in a hotel room in Urbandale, Iowa, a suburb of Des Moines, on Monday morning, May 24. The exact cause of Gray's death is still under investigation, although an initial autopsy report concluded that there were no signs of foul play.
Gray formed the earliest incarnation of Slipknot in the mid-90s with percussionist Shawn Crahan and the band's original vocalist, Anders Colsefini. Known as #2 or "The Pig," Gray's use of alternate tunings were instrumental in developing the masked band's unique version of alternative metal, which included many elements of industrial, punk and prog-rock.
"He was everything that was wonderful about this band and about this group of people," said Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor, appearing unmasked at a Tuesday press conference along with the band's other surviving members. "I will miss him with every fiber of my heart, as will everybody at this table and everyone who knew him. He was the best of us."
