Christopher Cross
Most folks now barely remember this chubby, falsetto-voiced singer-songwriter, but in 1980, his ultra-smooth, heavily orchestrated soft rock dominated the airwaves. His self-titled debut album produced a pair of Top 10 singles, and his theme for the movie “Arthur” won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe. Cross remains the only solo artist in Grammy history to sweep all four major awards: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist, beating out the likes of Pink Floyd, the Pretenders, Billy Joel and Frank Sinatra. He hasn’t had a hit since 1983.
