Each time Tanisha Hall, a New Orleans native, moved to a different place, she'd try a snowball in that town. But no one was making the sweet treat made of ice and syrup the way she liked it.
"I thought, 'If no one else is doing this, I'll do it,'" Hall said.
A self-professed eBay addict at the time, she bought her equipment on the auction site in 2007, and also purchased a mobile unit, so she could start selling snowballs at parties and festivals under the name Fleur de Lis Flavors.
If you've never had a snowball, it's not to be confused with an Icee or a snow cone. Hall said a snowball is like scooping up fresh-fallen snow, putting it in a cup and adding your favorite fruity flavors.
"Snowballs come in so many flavors and there's a smooth consistency," Hall said. "And we use filtered water. We buy our concentrates from New Orleans — all the equipment is from New Orleans — and the syrups are made in house.
