5 to Try: Soul food
February is not only International Hoof Care Month, it's also Black History Month - true story - and nothing defines a people's history like food. Just as white people are known for their love of pack meats and canned foods (Real Housewives of Atlanta fans, anyone?), African-American people are known for food with soul. Typically, turnip greens, white onion and various pig parts are involved, but never quinoa, caviar or anything consumed by people who air-kiss and call each other "babe." So put away your lardons; in soul food, there's only lard. And we mean that in a good way.
