Big Fella hustles up some grub
Growing up in Detroit, he couldn't find bok choy at the Piggly Wiggly, remembers Big Fella, a.k.a. "The Hustlin' Gourmet."
The ingredients he learned about on cooking shows such as Yan Can Cook and The Frugal Gourmet just weren't available where he lived. But that's what taught the Nashville-based home cook-turned-TV personality to get creative in the kitchen - to improvise and use what he had on hand.
"I started making stuff up," he said. "I just ran with it."
Big Fella takes a different approach, starting with a favorite frozen meal - Hot Pockets - and shows how to make them at home. It's quick, and you can use whatever leftover ingredients you have on hand to save money and enjoy a fresher, homemade taste.
The outcome: Big Fella's Hood Pockets.
"You don't have to go to Burger King. You don't have to go to McDonald's," Big Fella says. "As much as I love Monell's, you don't have to go to Monell's every night. You can cook at home. It's easy, it's cheap, it's simple."
