Where I noshed in Nashville

Went to a wedding and ate my way through the city's Vandy area hot spots.

This cafe is exactly what Des Moines needs. Order food and instead of getting a number, they'll give you a little tag with a dog and description on it. I was thrilled to be served the best salad of my life here. Grilled corn, baby spinach and grilled peaches plus feta cheese, blueberries, strawberries and a strip of grilled zucchini. Plus, it's located in the very hip Hillsboro 'hood a couple of blocks from Vanderbilt where eclectic shops beckon for post-lunch excursions.

I ate at the counter in this deli, where huge groups of students converged for the first weekend of the school year. My vegetarian dish (some sort of cheese/tomato pie) was huge and I actually had to shoo my server away because I was determined to eat every last bite. A bit pricey for a deli, though.

    Cabana

    Cabana - 5

    1910 Belcourt Ave. - Nashville

Cabana felt like an L.A. hotspot, with a sleek interior filled with cozy cabana-like seating (thus the name) throughout. We stopped here to wine and wine and wine and dine after an early evening wedding reception. I felt bad for the couple trying to have a romantic dinner. It's a better place to take a huge group (bachelorette parties abounded). Our server sanely handled a crew of 20, even though we sort of took over the TVs with the Mizzou game and got a little rowdier with each score. The food was great to mix and match and I ended the night with a reasonable tab.

After Cabana, we headed to Boscos to close out the night with local brews. My "Black Magic" stout was good, but not quite the quality of DM's Raccoon River blends.
